ServeAthens 2015

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

The 3rd annual ServeAthens ICN event gathered volunteers from almost 10 different churches at Living Hope Church in worship & prayer on Saturday, March 28th, 2016 and then sent them out to serve “In Christ’s Name” all over Athens.

Thank you to our volunteers from Antioch Christian Church, Beech Haven Baptist, City Church, IHOP, Living Hope Church, One Hope Church, St. James United Methodist Church, & Prince Avenue Christian School, and Oconee County Schools as well as our ACMin students, faculty, staff & board members who got involved!

Our volunteers carried the love of Christ to their community both in humble service as well as through prayer for each of their work sites. And we sure had fun completing some hefty tasks!

  • Forming garden beds at Action Ministries‘ One Community Garden
  • Operating tractors, making repairs, & painting at Butterfly Dreams Farm.
  • Removing poison ivy from the yard of a Chosen for Life foster family.
  • Weeding, removing tree stumps, and other yardwork for an elderly couple through Community Connections.
  • Sorting items for Food Bank of Northeast Georgia’s “Food for Kids” program.
  • Cleaning the yard at Interfaith Hospitality Network’s Day Center.
  • Moving furniture & cleaning the Learning Ally building in preparation for painting.
  • Working alongside the Project Safe staff at the Athens thrift store.
  • Cleaning & sanitizing the facilities at Talmage Terrace Lanier Gardens retirement community.

“[ServeAthens ICN Volunteers who removed poison ivy from the yard] were truly a blessing
to our family and to easing our minds regarding fostering children
as well as raising our own who plan to play and explore in our back woods.
Plus, we were encouraged by their fruitful conversation about Jesus and the spread of the Gospel around the world while they worked. Hard work spurred on by Gospel-centered conversation; What a blessing, and we are thankful!”

From A Pastor

“As a pastor here in Athens for about 14 years, ServeAthens ICN has been wonderful for us and our church. It builds our church, but it also builds the church in Athens.  It trains our people to be looking for opportunities to serve and to reach out to the lost and hurting here in Athens with the love of Christ! I cannot recommend this highly enough. It was wonderfully organized and gave me the opportunity to participate (and not organize and/or lead) along with the body of Christ.  Our goal as believers is to see Christ glorified and the Gospel go forth … and that is what took place during ServeAthens ICN.

This is definitely something we will be a part of long into the future and that we foresee being used as a wonderful aid to unite churches in the greater Athens area to live out the Good News of Jesus Christ, in word and deed!”

Paul Cooke, Senior Pastor of City Church, Athens GA
