ServeAthens 2014

With heartfelt appreciation…

ACMin thanks all the donors, business sponsors, musicians, service organizations, runners, and volunteers who gave of their time and resources to make ServeAthens ICN 2014 a success. God blessed this event abundantly!

* 22 runners participated in the 5k run/walk to serve.
* 11 service organizations attended the volunteer recruitment fair.
* Volunteer service teams represented 13 different local churches and schools.
* Volunteers served at 17 project sites.
* The Red Cross collected 14 pints of blood, and were able to serve 42 patients in need of blood.
* Approximately 140 total volunteers gave of their time and energy to serve in our community.

Projects completed

1) S.H.A.A.R.E. – stair railing on back porch was secured for an elderly couple.
2) S.H.A.A.R.E. – fixed a leaky bathroom sink and completed other minor repairs at the home of another elderly woman.
3) Food Bank of NEGA – volunteers sorted and packed various food donations.
4) ALCES – helped staff sort through items in the buildings and pack up in preparation for their move to new facilities.
5) Books for Keeps – sorted books that had been donated for elementary school children
6) Learning Ally – volunteers were given a tour of the studio, then helped proof current audio book recording projects
7) Talmage Terrace/Lanier Gardens – visited and talked with residents
8) Emeritus @ Peachtree Village – played the piano and visited with residents
9) Creative Community Services – project for a CCS host family: removed wallpaper from bathroom, pressure washed driveway, donated paint to re-paint trim around windows and doors
10) Creative Community Services – project for a CCS host family: trimmed tree in backyard, replaced step on back porch, installed gate on front porch, built and installed a 2nd gate for porch, repaired shelving in several closets, assembled a basketball goal.
11) Athens Community Council on Aging – served as course monitors for ACCA’s 5k/12k
12) Water bottle delivery – volunteers passed out water bottles downtown, in coordination with a local methodist church that was serving a meal
13) East Athens Community Center – painting, building maintenance, cleaning
14) Heritage Park – cleaning out historic village, bleaching white fence along park entrance
15) Extra Special People – painting, cleaning property in preparaiton for summer camp programs
16) Casa de Amistad – clean-up of the property along the road
17) Athens Prayer Network – general house repairs and maintenance
